Staff Data Engineer at Qwilr

Sydney, Australia

(Hybrid working with WFH days)

👋

Hi there,

Join us as our first Data Engineer and lead us to our data future!

At Qwilr we're on a mission to revolutionise what web documents can do. We want to have an amazing platform upon which to innovate with data and web technology.

Do you enjoy a mix of cloud infrastructure, event pipelines and high-scale data technology? Do you like the idea of impacting how decisions are made in a SaaS startup and for customers around the globe as a leading figure?

Join us now to lay foundations and be a part of a growth story. There is a lot we want to do, but we will be balanced as we go. Ultimately you'll make an outsized impact on a team eager to "make a dent in the universe".

Looking forward to talking data with you!

About the Role

In this newly created role of Staff Data Engineer, you will grow and maintain our core data and event infrastructure we are calling our "data platform".

This platform will support departments across Qwilr, including Product and Go-to-market. Collaborating with insight-formers and decision-makers, your mission will be to empower data-informed decision making across the business!

You also have the opportunity to shape Qwilr's in-product data capabilities and infrastructure, and collaborate closely with our infrastructure platform team.

What You'll Do

In your role, you will both collaborate with stakeholders and be hands-on, for example:

  • Gather data requirements from stakeholders.
  • Design solutions and future evolution of the data platform.
  • Create and maintain data pipelines.
  • Managing and processing complex, large data for analysis.
  • Analyse data and provide solutions for modernisation and value extraction
  • Create self-service features for business insights and decision making.
  • Collaborate and contribute to organisational data strategy.

Some of the technology and features you'll be working with will include:

  • Tools for data ingestion, query optimisation, data segregation.
  • Customer and operational data stores, processing tools and reports.
  • Funnel and attribution data analysis, processing and reports.
  • Related off-the-shelf data products.
  • High scale event and query stores.
  • Cloud SaaS infrastructure.

About You

  • You look for objective evidence to support opinions and decisions. If you don't have it... you're naturally curious to find it!
  • You know not all data is equal and have a sense of data quality and insight.
  • You prefer a pragmatic balance between building for the future and responding to short term needs.
  • You're a natural collaborator and are comfortable working with multiple stakeholders.
  • You're a natural troubleshooter and can navigate situations where data needs to be connected across systems.
  • You are motivated by data at cloud-scale and real-time requirements.
  • You are passionate about promoting learning as a positive outcome from a team's work.

Here are some skills that will help you be successful in this role
P.S. You don't need to have mastered all of them, so even if you're 70% there, hit apply!

  • Data development (e.g. ETLs, Lambdas, Scripting, Zapier)
